College Football / World Series / Nonsense

College Football / World Series / Nonsense

Here I go again on my own…well, with a little help from the internet and a wife that can’t stop providing material.  Bad news for this week, TOB prepared by taking notes during the college games last Saturday, and while watching World Series Game 4 at local haunt Helen Fitzgerald’s.  Paralysis by analysis much?  But I digress, on to the content!

Is TOB’s son having growth issues?  He’s not putting on weight or gaining height nearly as quickly as a golden retriever puppy.  Should we be concerned?  Until next time.

Great commercial alert:

Who doesn’t like a free coffee mug, know what I’m saying!

Quick hitters since I took notes:

·         Cat litter commercial that tells the tale of a single woman with a cat who can now have guests over because the kitty litter no longer smells bad…I don’t think that’s the problem

·         Dos Equis “Go for Two” sponsorship is a homerun (sweet cross sport reference)

·         Sponsored high school graduations piece is very solid.  Can’t wait for Jackson to graduate 5th grade as “Tony On Ball Presents, Jackson Magnan.”  I’m sure that won’t cause any marital friction

Random baseball notes from an above average World Series:

·         Yamamoto is the Asian Joe Kelly.  Throws 99, not afraid to pitch inside (particularly on George Springer), and doesn’t speak English all that well.

·         Hot take alert: TOB may take Vlad Jr. over Ohtani (based on this series).  Ohtani is very feast or famine.  He can go 9/9 but is just as likely to go 0/5 with four strikeouts. Incredible when he’s on but give me the 2/4 with at least one extra base hit every game by Vlad Jr in a long series.

·         The defense (mostly) and plate discipline in this series have been outstanding.  Not really having a stake on either side, TOB has been compelled to watch every game.  Last year had the star power of the Yankees, this has a little of that with the Dodgers and Vlad, but much higher-level baseball.

·         Has anyone noticed a heavy dinosaur / Godzilla presence in the advertising during the World Series?  There may be an audience for that.

·         Game 7 analysis: Last game of the year Brent, can’t hold anything back now!

Top 10 Breakdown of why no one is good.  TOB was on fire with game predictions last week, better take a week off and rank teams to hide my luck:

Games that TOB will ignore his kids at the pumpkin patch tomorrow to check in on:

1.      Ohio State: Will end up having two tough games this season before the playoff, maybe 1 if you think Texas is mid (TOB does).  Won’t know until the play IU in the Big 10 Title Game

2.      Indiana: Maybe the only team it’s hard to poke holes in.  Cignetti looking for a raise or Happy Valley

3.      Texas A&M: Some close wins against lesser competition, but they did get Brian Kelly fired, so they have that going for them, which is nice

4.      Alabama: Having a nice SEC run, that Florida State loss is more and more curious.

5.      Georgia: Fraud alert.  Will likely navigate through the rest of the season but this is not your older brother’s Georgia team

6.      Oregon: 6/7, will get to skip the Big 10 Title game and sneak into the playoff.  Geogia vibes

7.      Ole Miss: Trap game alert.  Likely have one more loss in them, which would be good, they can avoid the SEC title game and sneak into the playoff just like Georgia and Oregon

8.      Georgia Tech: Um, they seem to be pretty good, TOB has yet to watch much this year, though Haynes King is doing a great Tebow light impression.  Could run through the ACC and win one in the first round of CFB Playoff

9.      Vandy: Toughest games are yet to come.  Need to split at Texas and at Tennessee to have a shot at the playoff.

10.  BYU: Channeling the Texas Tech analysis from a couple of weeks ago - Big 12 sucks

Not too many games of interest today.  Vandy / Texas and OU / Tenn could be loser leaves town matches.  Georgia and Ole Miss are on upset alert.   Sorry Big 10, your conference is very top heavy and those teams don’t play each other very much.  No one is pumped for USC / Nebraska, or Indiana / Maryland.  Congrats on getting a lot of teams to the playoff, but your week to week is booty.

After 5 straight weeks, feels like there is just about enough content for a bi-weekly article.  Turns out College Football, and TOB’s life, are just not that interesting.  Check back on the 15th!

Topics to consider during the layoff:

·         Is 99 To Beat the worst of all reality shows combined (including Ken Jeong)

·         Has the Big 10 scheduled a good game?  Spoiler alert, no (look ahead for the next two weeks, not a single ranked match-up)

·         Is the SEC eating itself

·         Is there still a Big 12?
